Injuries don’t keep office hours. When its urgent, get diagnosed and recover fast when you go straight to the orthopedic experts with Ortho After Hours.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI provides more information about a potential problem seen on an x-ray, ultrasound scan, or CT scan.
WHAT DOES LOWCOUNTRY ORTHO USE IT FOR?
MRI can check for problems with the bones and joints. Some common problems found by MRI include arthritis, bone marrow problems, bone tumors, cartilage problems, torn ligaments or joints, and infections. MRI can also be used to check the nerves of the spine for conditions such as spinal stenosis, disc bulges, and spinal tumors.
BEFORE THE MRI SCHEDULING:
Please advise your scheduler if any of the following apply to you:
- Cardiac pacemaker/stents/Neurostimulators (please have your device card with you)
- Any recent surgery where anything was implanted.
- Any metal implanted
- If you are Claustrophobic
- Pregnancy
- Aneurysm clips
- Require Oxygen usage
MRI SCAN:
The MRI will take between 30 to 45 minutes to be completed for each scan scheduled. For the MRI you will lie on a table and be positioned for the scanned scheduled. A coil device will be placed on the body part being scanned. After positioning you will then be moved into the MRI unit. You will be given ear protection because the MRI will make loud noises the duration of the scan. You will be given a ball to squeeze in case you need to communicate with the Tech about an urgent matter. You will have to remain still during the exam to ensure good-quality pictures are taken for your doctor.
