Ortho Physician Assistant

Job Description

Originally founded in 1975, Lowcountry Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is among Charleston’s leading and longest-standing orthopedic groups. Lowcountry Orthopaedics offers the most advanced comprehensive orthopedic care in the region and is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our team. This position will work as a surgical first assist and diagnose & treat hip and knee patients in an outpatient clinical setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Surgical first assist for Total Joint cases
  • Hospital rounds
  • Outpatient Clinic to include comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical examinations, interpreting lab and diagnostic procedures to establish working diagnosis, performing diagnostic therapeutic procedures in office.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of professional Physician Assistant theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Moderate computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Display a courteous, positive, and helpful attitude to patients, their families, staff, and physicians to include a pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment consisting of staff, physicians, patients, and outside vendors.
  • Demonstrate reliability and motivation. Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Accurately follow surgery center/hospital procedures and protocols with minimum supervision.

EDUCATION: Master in Physician Assistant required.

EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years of experience in a physician’s office or hospital including the diagnosis and treatment of patients and assisting physician(s) in surgery.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Current SC Physician Assistant licensure.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Job duties are primarily performed in a sterile operating room or typical clinic office environment. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. Must observe universal safety precautions to avoid contraction of disease. Requires working under stressful conditions and working long, irregular hours.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Auditory and visual acuity is necessary. Requires standing for long periods of time. Must have the physical and mental stamina required for long or difficult cases and emergency call. Must be able to assist in the transfer and positioning of patients of all sizes. Occasionally required to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.

This position will work as a surgical first assist and diagnosis & treat spine patients in an outpatient clinical setting.

Part-Time PA-C / NP Orthopedic After-Hours Clinic

We offer the most advanced comprehensive orthopedic care in the region and are looking for motivated APP’s to supply coverage to a new After-Hours / Ortho Walk-In Clinic opening soon at our North Charleston, SC location. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy, cutting-edge orthopedic practice treating a variety of orthopedic injuries in an outpatient clinic setting.

Ortho Walk-In Clinic Hours:

  • Mondays-Thursdays (5pm-7pm)
  • Saturdays (8am-Noon)

Qualifications:

  • South Carolina PA-C License
  • PA-C / NP-C
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have greater than 2-4 years of urgent care and/or clinical setting seeing a variety of orthopedic injuries

Scope of Practice:

  • Triage and manage patients thoroughly and efficiently, maintaining a steady flow to avoid long wait times
  • Order and interpret X-Rays
  • Perform closed reductions of simple fractures or dislocations
  • Comfortable administering localized injections
  • Wound closures and laceration repair
  • Apply and modify braces, splints, and other orthopedic appliances
  • Sports Physicals

Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include taking and recording of vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and medication preparation as directed by the physician.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Clinical and Imaging Director
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: None
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required; Associates Degree in Applied Science preferred.
EXPERIENCE: At least two years of medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or hospital; training in Orthopaedic assisting preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: CMA certification required.

EXPERIENCE: Prefer at least one year of athletic training experience in a physician’s office or hospital, but not required; training in Orthopaedic assisting preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: BOC for athletic training required, South Carolina athletic training licensure recommended
