Lowcountry Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
Meet our Team: Dr. Owings

Meet our Team: Dr. OwingsInjuries to the hand can wreak havoc on a patient’s daily life. Often patients are anxious and tense about the surgery and recovery process. A Lowcountry Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine patient credits her hand surgeon for easing that anxiety. She explains, “I fell and fractured my wrist. I was in pain, overwhelmed and anxious. Dr. Owings put me in a cast after x-rays and an exam. He is knowledgeable, professional, calming and reassuring.”

Dr. F. Patterson Owings is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in hand and upper-extremity surgery. Hand surgery requires consideration of the entire hand up to the shoulder as an interconnected unit because of its' unique complexity and intricacy. Whether treating fractures, arthritis, or deformities, the hand specialists at Lowcountry Orthopaedics considers the entire hand, wrist, elbow, forearm, arm, and shoulder. Says a recent patient, “I’m very grateful and thankful that my primary care physician referred me to Dr. Owings for the help that I needed with my hand. I was very nervous about seeing an orthopedic doctor and wasn’t sure what to expect. Dr. Owings has put all of those concerns to rest with his very professional, caring and concerned office mannerism!”

The goal is always to restore optimal hand, arm and shoulder function using the latest comprehensive treatment and technology, while putting the patient at ease. Says a recent 67-year-old patient, “Dr. Owings is very good at explaining the issues in a manner where I understand exactly what he’s talking about and I don’t leave his office guessing about anything concerning my care. I completely trust him with my care!”

Dr. F. Patterson Owings completed his surgical residency at Emory University, and his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. By adopting new technologies and developing new techniques, orthopaedic surgeons at Lowcountry Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine provide patients innovative surgical and nonsurgical techniques. In-house services include X-ray, nerve testing, MRI, physical and occupational therapy and outpatient spine procedures. In-house procedures and our outpatient surgery center offer patients total care for their spine problems under one roof. To schedule an appointment, please call 843-797-5050.
