Biography

Dr. Eric Stem is a hip and knee specialist and orthopedic surgeon at Lowcountry Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He has been with the practice since 2009.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to joining Lowcountry Orthopedics, Dr. Stem was an orthopedic surgeon at South Carolina Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.

Dr. Stem also has experience in occupational medicine and urgent care from his work at US Healthworks, now known as Concentra, and RediMed Clinic Urgent Care in Fort Wayne, IN, from 1998 to 2002. He gained emergency medicine experience at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, NC, from 1995 to 1997 with regular weekend emergency room coverage of four Oklahoma hospitals: 1) Mercy Memorial – Healdton Hospital, 2) Pauls Valley General Hospital, 3) Anadarko Municipal Hospital, and 4) Lawton Indian Hospital.

Dr. Stem served as a flight surgeon at Altus AFB, OK, from 1994 to 1997 where his duties included general medical, emergency, and aeromedical care for the military population, and held the following titles: 1) Chief of Flight Medicine Clinic, 2) Officer in Charge, Physical Exams, and Standards, 3) Director of Occupational Medicine, 4) Infection Control Officer, and 5) Quality Assurance Officer. He also was the Medical Review Officer at Altus Hospital, Altus AFB, OK, from 1996 to 1997.
